There are many ways to experience Chiang Mai. You can visit beautiful temples, explore the mountains, meet elephants, or walk through local markets.
But one of the best ways to understand Thai culture is through Thai food.
Recently, Wonderful Chiang Mai Travel had the pleasure of taking a wonderful group from Taiwan, together with the Socialer team, for a fun Thai cooking class in Chiang Mai at Thai Cottage Home Cookery School.
This was not only a cooking class. It was a day of local markets, fresh ingredients, Thai herbs, laughter, delicious food, and new friendships.
And yes — we cooked a lot, and we ate a lot too! 😂
Our day started with pickup from Socialer Coliving & Coworking Space in Chiang Mai.
We arranged transportation for the group and headed out together for our first stop — a local Chiang Mai market.
For us, this is an important part of a Thai cooking experience.
Before learning how to cook Thai food, why not first learn where the ingredients come from?
At the market, we met our cooking teacher from Thai Cottage Home Cookery School.
She welcomed everyone with a big smile. She was friendly, energetic and spoke English very well, which made it easy for everyone to follow and enjoy the experience.

Walking through a local market is very different from simply visiting a supermarket.
Here, we could see the ingredients that Thai people use in everyday cooking.
Fresh vegetables, herbs, spices and many other local products surrounded us as our teacher explained more about Thai ingredients and how they are used.
For visitors from Taiwan, it was a chance to see another side of daily life in Chiang Mai.
This is exactly what we love about local experiences.
You don't only see Chiang Mai.
You experience how people live, shop, cook and eat.

After finishing our market visit, we continued by car to Thai Cottage Home Cookery School, located approximately 15 minutes outside Chiang Mai city.
Once we arrived, most of the kitchen equipment and ingredients were already beautifully prepared.
But we didn't start cooking immediately.
First, our teacher invited everyone to sit down, relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Then it was time to explore the garden.
This was one of the parts that made the experience special.
The cooking school grows vegetables and herbs in its own garden, allowing guests to learn more about the fresh ingredients used in Thai cooking.
Instead of simply standing in front of a cooking station and following instructions, we could see the connection between the plants growing outside and the food we were about to prepare.
For international visitors, this makes the experience much more interesting.
You can see it.
You can smell it.
You can touch it.
And finally...
You can cook it!

Then came the part everybody had been waiting for.
Cooking time!
Our group enjoyed preparing several different types of Thai food, including stir-fried dishes, soup and dessert.
Of course, one of the highlights was a famous Thai favorite:
Everyone had the opportunity to participate, learn and enjoy the cooking process together.
There were plenty of smiles and laughs around the kitchen.
And the best part about joining a cooking class?
You don't only learn how to make the food.
You get to eat what you cook! 😂
By the end of the class, we had learned something new, enjoyed a fun activity together and were completely full from all the delicious food we had prepared.

For Wonderful Chiang Mai Travel, days like this are special because tourism is not only about moving customers from one attraction to another.
Travel should create connections.
A local market.
A friendly teacher.
A garden full of Thai herbs.
Cooking together.
Sitting around the table and enjoying the food you just made.
These simple experiences can become some of the strongest memories from a holiday.
After finishing our cooking class, it was time to say goodbye to the wonderful team at the cooking school.
We then took our guests back into Chiang Mai and dropped them off at the Jazz Café to continue their day.

A very special thank you to Tammy for your kindness, trust and support for Wonderful Chiang Mai Travel.
Thank you also to the entire Socialer team and our wonderful guests from Taiwan. It was our pleasure to meet all of you and be part of your Chiang Mai experience.
And a big thank you to Thai Cottage Home Cookery School for providing such a warm, friendly and enjoyable cooking class.
We truly appreciate everyone who made this day possible.
It was a simple day...
But sometimes these are exactly the days we remember the most.
We already miss you all and hope our paths cross again someday.
Welcome to Chiang Mai. 🇹🇭
Welcome to your second home. ❤️
